Hobby angler Frank Mertens is found dead on the banks of the Rhine. Mertens was married. His wife Susanne has a sixteen-year-old son, Felix, whom she brought into the marriage. The family lives in a terraced house on the outskirts of town, right next door to Felix’s paternal grandmother, Edith Voller. A conflict seems to be brewing between mother and grandmother, the cause of which Matti and Karin do not attach great importance to.
